Starting from Lijiang in Yunnan, the Yunnan-Tibet route (G214) passes through Shangri-La, Deqin, and other places before reaching Mangkang in Tibet, where it merges into the Sichuan-Tibet route (G318). This route into Tibet gradually rises in elevation, making it an ideal transition for altitude acclimatization. Along the way, views of snow-capped mountains, glaciers, grasslands, lakes, dense forests, salt flat, villages, temples, and mighty rivers—scenes of breathtaking beauty at every turn.

From autumn to early summer, water level dropped, revealing marshland and meadow, creating the unique scene of “a lake on the grassland, grassland in the lake.” Later, head to Meili Snow Mountain viewpoint to admire towering ranges bordering Yunnan-Tibet, with 13 peaks over 5,000m. Later, enjoy wine tasting at Dameong Winery, its art-gallery-like building offers breathtaking views of Lancang River Valley. Overnight at Yanjing (2,300m).

Later, drive towards Zogang (3,805m) for overnight stay.

After breakfast, depart to Lake Rakwa (3850m) for lunch. It is the largest high-altitude glacial lake in eastern Tibet and one of China’s most beautiful freshwater lakes. Upon arrival, enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake, admiring the waters reflected against glaciers and snow-capped mountains, resembling a fairy-tale landscape.

Compared to the well-developed Laigu Glacier, Renlongba Glacier is more understated and less visited, yet still boasts magnificent natural wonders while retaining its pristine, rugged charm. The surrounding terrain is complex, with snow-covered peaks, alpine meadows, and lakes scattered around. Take plenty of photos and enjoy the stunning scenery to the fullest.

Visit Midui Glacier (2400m), the world’s lowest elevation glacier. The glacier appears like a glittering belt surrounded by countryside farmlands, villages, forest, and river valleys. Overnight in Bomi (2800m).

Drive to Lunang (3,300m), located in a long and narrow meadow. It features spruce and pine forests, grassy fields, and serves as a pasture. Surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains, with winding streams running through the valley, this place offers a distant view of Nanga Parbat, a peak standing tall at 7,782m. Don’t miss the chance to taste the famous local dish named stone-pot chicken.

Journey through Sejila Pass (4728m), the viewpoint to admire Lunang forest and Namcha Barwa Peak (7782m) in the backdrop. Later, continue the journey via Linzhi to Draksum Tso (3700m), a scenic lake surrounded by virgin forest. Overnight by lakeside boutique hotel.
